Since 2019, we’ve connected professionals to share the latest guidance in carbon reduction

Seattle’s Regional cArbon Leadership Forum Hub

Who we are

The CLF Seattle Hub is a regional hub of the Carbon Leadership Forum and made up of volunteers from across the built environment. Started in 2019, the hub has grown to include over 300 members, including architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, policy makers, and others interested in reducing the carbon impacts of building materials.

While the hub communicates with the Carbon Leadership Forum, almost all content comes from the community’s work, as well as from experts brought in to educate members on the latest carbon reduction strategies and research.

Knowledge Share

The hub began as a knowledge share group, stemming from a desire in the community to understand and reduce the carbon impacts of our work. Early sessions focused on explaining how to understand life cycle assessments (LCAs), and how to use emerging tools within the industry. As general knowledge grew, the sessions expanded to focus on case studies, emerging research, carbon policy, and the evolving landscape of certifications, With the move to online meet-ups due to COVID, the hub began recording and sharing these educational sessions on youtube (you can see these on our Past Sessions page)

Local Tours

Starting in 2023, the Seattle Hub has set up tours for its members, highlighting low carbon projects including mass timber construction, adaptive reuse projects, and pilot sites utilizing next generation materials. The community has also worked with local manufacturers to tour production facilities and to create a dialogue between manufacturers and our community experts. Previous tours have included:

  • Northlake Commons

  • Hubbard’s Corner (adaptive reuse and pilot materials site)

  • Nucor Steel

  • Heidelberg Materials

Policy Sessions

While the hub does not lobby for specific legislation, it works to ensure that hub members are aware of the latest legislation focused on carbon emissions at the local, state, and national levels. These sessions happen annually, typically in January or February, and are designed to give the community a objective look at the legislative landscape for the upcoming year. Community members are encouraged to voice their comments on legislation and are provided with guidance on how to get involved.

Working Groups

Working groups at the CLF Seattle Hub evolve out of community interest on a subject. The West Coast LCA Tool User Group is the earliest example of this, starting as an informal discussion forum for those deep in the weeds of whole building LCA creation. While the group began as a local forum, it has since joined with others across the west coast to create a shared group of LCA practitioners. In 2026, several new working groups, including a circular economy group and a specifications team were launched. Find out more about these on our Working Groups page.

Meet ups and Networking

Sometimes the best connections come from just having a space to meet and catch up. The Seattle Hub hosts in person happy hours, often in the winter and summer. These are informal gatherings designed to let the community interact and connects on the topics as they see fit. Visit the Calendar page to view upcoming events.
